We get it. It’s hard to gauge whether your roof needs maintenance because it’s not exactly a place you see every day (unless you’re like 20 ft. tall.) With so many other factors that you need to consider during home maintenance season, you will most likely overlook the need for roof replacement.
However, homeowners should be aware that maintaining a roof does not need much effort. It’s critical to inspect your roof at least twice a year for symptoms of deterioration. That way, you’ll be able to perform the required repairs or, if appropriate, replace your roof. Early detection of problems may save you a lot of time and money in the coming years – and it can also help you avoid possible risks. For this homeowner in Portland, he was smart enough to do just that and call us up for a BOSSED UP roof tile replacement for his wonderful home!
There wasn’t much damage to this homeowner’s roof. However, his roof did show signs of aging; after years of withstanding extreme weather, his roof finally needed a roof tile replacement to prevent further damage that would incur him more costs in the future.
Before we started replacing the roof tiles, we first calculated the materials that we needed. In a way, this is an essential step so that we have a smooth workflow and so that we have a neat product. Based on our calculations, we needed 35 squares for one layer of roof tiles. The rafter length had to be 6.12m long, and upon request, the owner wanted the painting touch-up to be colored harbor blue. We also suggested that the owner replace the tongue and groove, which he gladly agreed to.
Roof Tile Installation
Before removing the existing roof tiles, we first reinforced the weakened roof frame to avoid it collapsing. After that, we put the underlayment at one side of the roof, perpendicular to the lower edge (the eave) of the roof to promote better insulation.
Next, we started installing the tiles from one side first while following along the side of the roof. In the tight spots of the roof, we had to cut some squares for them to fit in perfectly. After which, we installed the ridge tiles as the final step.
Lastly, we replace the old tongue and groove with fresh new ones that will give a more reinforced and smooth look.
Overall, the job was straightforward too, especially with the amazing accommodation of the owner. He was very cooperative with what we suggested, and it always makes us glad to work with customers who value house maintenance as much as Boss Exteriors!
