With every service that we provide, we make sure that we do our job thoroughly because building a good relationship with our clients is very important to us. That is why before diving to replace, repair or upgrade a roof, we conduct a detailed inspection of the property so that we can properly assess what needs to be replaced or what can be salvaged to give our clients the best deal.
Just like with this project that we did for our client in Sandy, before starting the project proper, we rigorously checked the roof such as inspecting the sheeting for damage and whatnot.
Roof Sheet
Inspecting the sheets of the roof is very important. At some point in your roof’s lifetime, it might need re-sheeting. This is when we remove the existing material of your roof and proceed to re-sheet it with plywood. The process is usually done if the roof deck of your home was made using shiplap, a roofing material that was popular decades ago.
By this time, the shiplap is probably in dire need of being replaced. Old wood dries out and brittles up. The under-layer applied over the shiplap has most likely been damaged by time as well. These two factors, as well as many others, create holes, cracks, gaps, and voids that provide the opportunity for rain and wind to damage your roof and the inside of your home.
Installed New Flashings
A roof’s flashing is often overlooked but is a very crucial member for a functional roof. For this project, we installed new metal flashings. Specifically, we installed new ultimate plumbing vent flashings as well as a new 13" stove pipe flashing and collar. To complement the protection that flashings provide, we also installed Owens Corning WeatherLock ice and water shield on all penetrations and valleys.
Installed Vents for Exhaust
Roof Ventilation is very important for three main reasons: it extends the life of your roof, reduces energy costs and reduces indoor temperature extremes. For these reasons, it is essential to install one in your roof if you still haven’t got one. Acknowledging the importance of it, we installed a couple for this roof in Sandy. Specifically, we installed 8 Owens Corning inflow vents and 6 + add 4 RVO 38 can vents and 1 - 4" plastic flapper vent.
